Kylian Mbappe on target as PSG beat Toulouse 2-0 to win the French Champions Trophy

Kylian Mbappe and Lee Kang-in scored two first-half goals for PSG as they won the French Champions Trophy after beating Toulouse 2-0.

Lee played his final game for the Ligue 1 champions, as he is set to leave for the Asian Cup in Qatar with South Korea.

The South Korean international scored the first goal in the 3rd minute of the game. The early lead meant that Toulouse had an uphill task to win the game.

Toulouse left-back Gabriel Suazo missed a chance to equalise midway through the first half when he failed to meet a pass from Aron Donnum.

Kylian Mbappe stars for PSG again

Dembele and Bradley Barcola went close to scoring for PSG before Toulouse’s Dutch striker Thijs Dallinga hit the post.

Nevertheless, PSG scored their second as Kylian Mbappe doubled the lead just before half-time. This is PSG’s 10th Champions Trophy in their last 11 seasons.

The Frenchman has scored 22 goals in 23 matches this season and extended his PSG scoring record to 234 since joining them in 2017.

The Champions Trophy has been held abroad in recent years as a preseason curtain-raiser. Moreover, this year’s edition was scheduled in Bangkok in August, but the local organisers backed out.

The French league then decided to host the match on PSG’s home ground (Parc des Princes) rather than in Saudi Arabia or Qatar as had been expected.

Kylian Mbappe undecided on his future amid Real Madrid links

The 25-year-old’s contract will expire in the next six months with PSG, and he has still not decided on his future.

Before the start of the new season, Mbappe decided to not sign a new contract with PSG and this created chaos, as he was left out of PSG’s squad.

Nevertheless, everything was sorted in the end, and he started to play again. However, he still hasn’t signed a new contract and can leave for free in the summer.

Moreover, Real Madrid have also given him a deadline to sign his contract in January. If he doesn’t sign a contract with them, they will look elsewhere for a new striker.

“I haven’t made any decision on my future. I didn’t make a choice. Nobody talks about my situation inside the club, it’s not a topic,” said Mbappe.

“I didn’t make my decision but we have an agreement with the president Al Khelaifi so it means that all parties are protected. Focus is on the team, not on my situation”.
