Kyle Walker: Manchester City right-back signs new deal until 2026

Man City right-back Kyle Walker has officially extended his contract until 2026 after turning down a move to Bayern Munich this summer.

The English defender entered the final year of his contract and was close to leaving the club. However, now, along with Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, he has decided to stay at the club.

Walker has been a key part of this Man City side since he joined the club back in 2017 for a fee of £50 million from Tottenham. Since then, the 33-year-old has won 13 trophies with the Premier League giants. Moreover, he has been the club’s captain since Kevin De Bruyne suffered a hamstring injury.

“I’m thrilled to sign a new deal. My future is with Manchester City and that is the best thing for me,” Walker said.

“I’ve enjoyed every single moment of the past six years at this fantastic club. I have an amazing coach, great team-mates and staff and our fans are the best. I feel supported on every single level,” he added.

Walker made 39 appearances in all competions last season for Man City, but he did not start against Inter in the Champions League final.

Furthermore, Walker also said that he was “hurt” after Guardiola said that he did not fit into the new defensive structure that Pep was using in the second half of the season. However, Guardiola said that he would “fight” to keep Walker at the club after interest from Bayern emerged.

Nevertheless, the English right-back has started all four games this season, along with the Super Cup final and also captained City in all those matches.

Manchester City, who lead the Premier League table with a perfect 12 points from four games will now face a tricky away fixture against West Ham United on Saturday.
