Kevin De Bruyne suffers hamstring injury and could be out until 2024

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne suffers a hamstring injury. The Belgian will face a lengthy spell on the sidelines following the injury he picked up against Burnley on Friday.

The 32-year-old had to be replaced in the first half of City’s 3-0 win at Turf Moor with a suspected hamstring injury. Man City manager Pep Guardiola also gave some insight into the injury.

“We have to decide his surgery. It will be a few months out,” Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Super Cup final against Sevilla on Wednesday.

“We will decide in the next days. Surgery is surgery. Three or four months out.”

“We have alternatives with different skills, different talents. It’s another opportunity [for others] life gives you that. I’m pretty sure they will take it.”

Phil Foden may be Guardiola’s initial choice to replace De Bruyne. “He can play there but play outside as well,” the manager said. “We have alternatives like Mateo Kovacic. The club gave me a really good squad and we’ll find a solution.”

Moreover, De Bruyne suffered a similar fate in the Champions League final against Inter in June. He left the pitch in the first half after suffering a hamstring injury.

It had been reported that City believe this is a recurrence of that injury, which will now likely keep him out until 2024.

Moreover, Manchester City have been linked with a move for West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta in recent weeks. Their £70 million bid was rejected by West Ham a week ago.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, City are ready to submit another bid as Paqueta remain a priority target alongside Jeremy Doku.
