Kapil Dev unhappy over India’s ‘Hectic’ World Cup schedule

India will play Nine matches in Nine different cities making it a bit challenging to cope with considering the intensity of the tournament

The former Indian captain has been in the news in the last few days. A few days ago, the all-rounder criticized the Indian team for being arrogant and not seeking the help of former Indian players like Sunil Gavaskar to resolve any deficiencies in the technique or other things related to the game. Kapil Dev said “Sometimes, when too much money comes, arrogance comes. These cricketers, they feel they know everything. That’s the difference. I would say there are so many cricketers who need help. When Sunil Gavaskar is there, why can’t you talk? Why should there be ego? They feel they are good enough. Maybe they are good enough, but extra help from somebody, who has seen 50 seasons of cricket, won’t hurt. He knows which side the grass grows and where the sun comes out from.

The Schedule

The World Cup-winning captain has now criticized BCCI for India’s hectic World Cup schedule. India plays nine matches of the league phase in nine different cities which also includes travel. The Indian team will kick off their world cup campaign on October 8 against Australia in Chennai. Men in Blue will then take on Afghanistan. The team will return to Delhi before traveling to Ahmedabad to take on arch-rivals Pakistan on October 14. India will play all these matches in the space of one week.

What did They say?

Kapil Dev has criticized BCCI over the scheduling of India’s World Cup matches. He said “India is playing 11 matches and the amount of traveling they have to do…Who made that fixture? You are going to Dharamshala, then to Bengaluru, to Kolkata… playing in nine different places.” On the other hand, the former Indian captain is optimistic about India’s chances in the World Cup. In the words of Kapil Dev “We are still playing well…we are reaching the finals, the semifinals,” the former cricketer added. India is currently in West Indies having won the recently concluded ODI series which will be followed by a series of five T20Is. India’s next ODI assignment is the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and Pakistan followed by a three-match ODI series against Australia and the World Cup.
