Juventus beat Roma 1-0 to close in on leaders Inter in Serie A

Juventus narrowly defeated AS Roma 1-0 to close the gap between them and Serie A leaders Inter on Saturday.

Inter drew against Genoa 1-1 away from home and dropped important points. Moreover, with Juve’s win over Roma, they now sit just two points behind Nerazzurri.

Adrien Rabiot scored the only goal of the game in the 47th minute. That goal helped the Bianconeri to close down Inter. They will close their 2023 with a win over Mourinho’s Roma.

Despite all the trouble, the club has faced this year, Massimiliano Allegri’s side has fought back brilliantly this season to challenge for the Scudetto this season.

Juve went through a lot of trouble after former president Andrea Agnelli and the entire board resigned in November 2022 following an investigation by Turin prosecutors into false accounting. Moreover, this also led to 10 point deduction in the league.

The false accounting case also led to Juventus being excluded by UEFA from the third-tier Europa Conference League for this season.

Dybala also went close to scoring but instead it was Juventus who broke the deadlock right at the start of the second half.

The Frenchman beat the offside trap to latch onto Dusan Vlahovic’s backheeled flick and slotted his shot into the bottom near corner.

With this win they now have 43 points eighteen games and sit 2nd in the Serie A table, just two points off Inter.

“It was a good game, because playing against Roma is never easy, especially when Jose Mourinho is on the opposition bench,” Allegri told DAZN.

“We ran risks in the first half with a few Paulo Dybala balls that went into the box, but remained solid. We scored after the restart and could’ve had a second goal.

“It was important to win, especially as we continue to break away from the teams behind us. Once it comes to January 7, we’ll see how many points we racked up in the first half of the season.”
