Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool boss survives scare, missing ring found by camera crew before customary celebrations at the Kop

Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool might have given home fans a perfect New Year gift with a 4-2 thumping victory over Newcastle United, with all six goals coming in the second half, but the German boss has survived a crisis moment when his wedding ring almost got lost on the ground, before he was gearing up for his customary fist-pump celebrations with the fans at the Kop.

Liverpool thrashes Newcastle

Liverpool and Newcastle played out an exciting clash at the Anfield when the Reds extended their lead at the top of the table by defeating Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United by a massive score line of 4-2. Liverpool’s Egyptian Pharaoh Mohamed Salah scored a brace, which might have been a hattrick had he not missed the penalty which he failed to slot past Magpies’ keeper Martin Dubravka, thus gifting Reds fans a parting gift before he joins his country for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which is slated to begin from 13th January, 2024. Along with Salah, Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo were on target for the home side, as this victory helped them steer three points clear at the top of the Premier League table, followed by Aston Villa on second spot. For Newcastle, Isak and Botman toiled hard to get on the score sheet, but their efforts went in vain as Liverpool maintained their tempo throughout the game.

Jurgen Klopp briefly loses his wedding ring

But, Klopp’s exultation on kickstarting the New Year with a thumping win almost went in dismay when he briefly lost his wedding ring on the ground ahead of his regular fist-pumping celebrations with the home crowd. While he was going towards the Kop with his celebratory gesture, he seemed to have lost control of the ring, which accidentally fell on the ground, thus creating a brief scare within Klopp’s mind. However, a sharp eye from a TV cameraperson was required to locate the ring at the middle of the pitch, as Klopp responded by kissing the ring in front of the camera.

After this freak period, Klopp was heard saying, “I had a massive shock, but it’s back.” He was assisted by the camera person from British Broadcasting channel Sky Sports to find his ring, as he said, “Oh my God, that would have been really awful. I lost it once in my life — I needed a professional diver because it was in the sea.”

He further added, “From time to time when I lose one or two kilos, it’s not the right fit anymore.” Fortunately, Klopp would not have to lose his ring on the night his side recorded a heroic victory which included a herculean effort against Eddie Howe’s men, who have decided to go all guns blazing in every game.
