Julian Nagelsmann to take over as Germany head coach until Euro 2024

Julian Nagelsmann will take over as the new Germany head coach until Euro 2024 after taking a huge pay cut. Moreover, he will be appointed on a short-term contract until the end of Euro 2024, which Germany are hosting.

Nagelsmann will replace Hansi Flick, who was sacked after a crushing 4-1 defeat to Japan in an international friendly. Flick’s only major tournament with Germany was the 2022 World Cup, in which they were knocked out of the group stages.

The 36-year-old has been out of management since March after Bayern Munich sacked him. He joined the Bavarians in July 2021 on a five-year contract and won the Bundesliga title in his first season.

However, he was replaced by Thomas Tuchel midseason after a poor string of results. Moreover, he is still under contract with them despite being sacked in March.

Nevertheless, Bayern will now terminate his contract so that he can officially replace Hansi Flick as Die Mannschaft’s new manager.

According to reports, Nagelsmann will only earn €4 million in wages from the German FA, which is significantly lower than what he earned at Bayern.

Furthermore, he would’ve made €20 million if he had seen out his contract with Bayern Munich until 2026.

This summer, clubs like Tottenham, PSG and Chelsea were interested to bring Nagelsmann as their new coach. But in the end, they opted for other options.

Euro 2024 will start on June 14, so Nagelsmann will have three international breaks between now and the tournament to work with his new side.

Germany have automatically qualified for next summer’s Euro as the host nation. So, Nagelsmann’s first competitive game will be the tournament’s opening game.

His first match in charge of Germany could be against the USMNT in an international friendly on October 14.
