Jude Bellingham: Real Madrid star wins Golden Boy award, etches his name among superstars in history books

In recent football updates, Real Madrid gets one more awardee among their ranks as their star boy Jude Bellingham has been felicitated with the prestigious Golden Boy award, which is given to the youngsters who have excelled in the early stages of their career. He joins Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and Lionel Messi among the elite class of recipients of this award.

Jude Bellingham- a phenomenon

Jude Bellingham has been one of the superstars from the ranks of Real Madrid. Having joined from Borussia Dortmund last season, the Englishman has been prolific on the Madrid attack, and is touted to be the next superstar for the Spanish giants.

Owing to his exuberance and finesse with the ball, which encompasses from superb passing to exceptional dribbling skills, Bellingham has been the talk of the Spanish capital since the beginning. He has embarked upon a legendary career with Los Blancos, and has registered his name on the score sheet on 13 occasions in 14 outings.

He will always be remembered for his last ditch goals to save his team’s blushes, but FC Barcelona fans will always remember him for his outrageous winner on the 92nd minute during this season’s first El Clasico at Estadio Olimpico, Montjuic.

The defending champions Barca were leading till the hour mark, then Bellingham came to etch history by becoming another English superstar to score in El Clasico. Many would have thought that the match would have ended 1-1, with both teams sharing the spoils.

But, Bellingham decided to inflict more miser on Culers when he scored a last minute clutch winner, when he slotted past the ball through the legs of Barca custodian Marc Andre Ter Stegen, thus stealing the spotlight from the home team, embodying traditional Madrid spirit of fighting till the end.

As a result, it would be safe to say that La Liga and Spanish capital have welcomed their hero by humming “Hey Jude” by the legendary Beatles.

Joins an elite list of winners

Bellingham was awarded the best Under-21 football player in last month’s Balon D’Or ceremony, as the Golden Boy award will be another valuable addition to the star’s prized trophy cabinet. With this trophy, he would be the first Englishman to win this since 2014, when Raheem Sterling, the current Chelsea star used to ply his trade in Liverpool. He was heard saying, “I’d like to thank everyone who has been part of my journey so far at Birmingham, Dortmund and now Madrid. It wouldn’t be possible without them. Lastly and most importantly my family who give me the support and motivation and love every day to keep striving.”

“Now I have this prestigious award I want to keep going. I want to keep pushing the limits of my potential and hopefully many more trophies to come.”

Incidentally, with this win, Bellingham has joined an elite list of previous winners when Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Pedri and Erling Haaland were awarded during their early days. He becomes only the third Englishman to be scripted with this epitaph of Golden Boy since Wayne Rooney in 2004 and Raheem Sterling in 2014.

Manchester City star Erling Haaland was recognized this year by winning the Golden Year Man award, with Linda Caicedo winning Golden Girl award owing to her outstanding tenure with Real Madrid, thus handing the Spanish capital with two award winners. Spain and FC Barcelona star Aitana Bonmati won the Golden Player Woman award, connecting to her exceptional finesse with the ball with both her club and country. She won the Balon D’Or last month, in which has been a standout year for her this season, also leading Spain to World Cup triumph and Barca to Women’s Champions League triumph.
