Jordan Henderson reveals why he left Liverpool this summer

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson reveals in an interview why he left the club to join Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq.

Jordan Henderson apologises to LGBTQ community after Saudi move

Furthermore, Henderson has been a vocal ally of the LGBTQ+ community. So, his move has been criticized by some LGBTQ+ campaigners, as same-sex sexual activity is illegal in Saudi Arabia.

“My intention was never, ever to hurt anyone. My intention has always been to help causes and communities,” Henderson told the Athletic.

“I do care about different causes that I’ve been involved in, and different communities… I do care. And for people to criticise and say that I’d turned my back on them really, really hurt me.

“All I can say is that I apologise, I’m sorry that I’ve made them feel that way. But I haven’t changed as a person.”

Henderson says he ‘did not feel wanted’ by Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp

The 33-year-old revealed the reason why he left the Reds this summer. He said that Jurgen Klopp made it clear he would have to accept a reduced role if he stayed this summer.

“There were a few things that sent alarm bells ringing. I’ve got a very good relationship with Jurgen. He was very honest with me. I knew there were going to be new players coming in my position,” he added.

“If one of those people (Klopp or FSG) said to me, ‘Now we want you to stay’, then we wouldn’t be having this conversation”.

“That’s not to say that they forced me out of the club, but at no point did I feel wanted by anyone to stay”.
