Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer expected to make comeback in Ireland tour: Report

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has made outstanding strides in his recuperation from a back injury, and it’s possible that he will play again next month during India’s Ireland tour.

The Mumbai Indians pacer is now bowling aggressively at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru under the direction of former India batter and NCA director VVS Laxman, according to a report on Indian Express. Bumrah is currently bowling 8–10 overs, and the academy is closely monitoring his workload.

The revelation is a good sign for the Indian cricket team as it prepares for important competitions like the Asia Cup and the ICC ODI World Cup, which will be held in India in October and November.

India is anticipated to name a reserve team for the visit of Ireland, which includes three 20-over internationals from August 18 to 23 and follows the Caribbean and American tours.

Bumrah had back surgery in March and has been sidelined since September of last year.

He briefly returned during a T20I series against Australia in September after missing the Asia Cup in the UAE due to a back injury, but his condition worsened and he was forced to withdraw from the ensuing T20 World Cup in Australia, where India advanced to the semifinals.

Bumrah had also missed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in March as well the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the World Test Championship final against Australia.

Since then, he has been receiving treatment at the NCA with Shreyas Iyer, who is also getting better from a back condition. Rishabh Pant, a wicketkeeper and batsman who miraculously avoided a vehicle accident in December, is also recuperating at the NCA right now.
