Legendary English fast bowler James Andeson said he has no interest in retirement and has a lot more to give. He gave the reaction to his retirement rumors following a disappointing in the ongoing Ashes. Anderson hasn’t been able to pick up wickets consistently in the series and has looked ineffective in the four matches he has played so far. There are very few instances where Anderson is left out of the team due to his performance. The third Ashes test at Headingley was such an instance where Anderson was made to sit out due to his performance as England included Chris Wokes in his place and the all-rounder made an instant impact by picking up crucial wickets and scoring important runs lower down the order.

Getting Dropped

As a result, there was a question mark over Anderson’s place in the eleven for the fourth Ashes test but the team management had trust in his abilities which earned him a place in the fourth test at Old Trafford. Anderson has not been anywhere close to his best in the series is clear from the fact that he has picked only five wickets in the series which is equal to part-time spinner Joe Root. Although Anderson has been economical in the series you expect much more than just being economical from one of the greats to have played the game, Anderson’s performance has been one of the reasons for England being 2-1 down in the series.

Not Done Yet

Reacting to his retirement rumors Anderson said “You pray that these lean patches don’t come in one of the biggest series you could play in but unfortunately for me that is the case,” Anderson told Test Match Special. “I’ve still got another innings to try to do something for the team.” According to many experts, the pitches in the series haven’t been conducive to fast bowling and there hasn’t been any swing on offer which could be one of the reasons for Anderson not being able to pick up wickets. The fast bowler felt that he bowled well on the second day of the fifth test. In the words of Anderson, “I felt like today I bowled really well, and on another day I could have got a couple more wickets.” Anderson picked up an important wicket of Mitchel Marsh as Australia was bowled out for 295 with a lead of 12 runs.
