IPL: Shreyas Iyer to miss IPL, World Test Championship final, set to undergo surgery

Star Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer set to miss IPL and World Test Championship Final, owing to a recurring back injury which forced him out of the ongoing ODI series against Australia.

It seems that he will take longer time to recuperate and take the field again as he is set to undergo surgery , which will rule him out from cricketing duties for 4-5 months.

Shreyas Iyer Out of the IPL, WTC 2023 final

Iyer leads Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. Owing to this recurring back injury which could be a huge blow for the team, KKR might be forced to announce a new name in the leading front, as multiple options emerge for them.

Not only IPL, his injury setback rules him out of the Ultimate Test Showdown in June, staged in Oval, London where India face Australia in the World Test Championship final. A reliable middle order batter missing out could be a huge blow for the Indian team management, as they are set to explore newer options for the Final.

Suffering since days

Rohit Sharma, the Indian Cricket Team skipper was concerned about the injury after Iyer was forced to sit out the fourth text match against Australia, as he was heard mentioning his reports “don’t look good”.

A source close to the cricketer said, “Iyer has been advised to go for surgery. He is keen to get operated by a specialist in London, but if there is a decent option in India, then the surgery could take place here also”

He could thus be expected to return to the field, by racing against time during the ODI World Cup, during October-November, staged in India.
