English explosive opening batsman Jason Roy has been roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders in absence of their skipper and experienced batter Shreyas Iyer, as the latter is ruled out of the remainder of the IPL season, owing to a back injury.

Indian dependable batsman Shreyas Iyer, who has been ruled out since the last test match against Australia, has a season to forget as he is ruled out of the remainder of the season. They have signed Jason Roy, the seasoned opener and explosive batter for a price of 2.8 crores, as KKR will be missing the services of veterans Shreyas Iyer and Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who has pulled out of the season, citing personal reasons.
An explosive opener at the fore
Jason Roy, who has been in the spotlight since many days owing to his brilliant and eye-catching stroke play and impeccable shots all around the park. The 32-year old has amassed 1522 runs while playing for England, at a mind-boggling strike rate of 137.61, which boasts of 8 fifties.
“Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the tournament while Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has confirmed his unavailability for the season,” an IPL statement read recently, announcing the unavailability of the seasoned veterans for KKR.
Shreyas Iyer has been struggling with lower back injury since Bangladesh series in December 2022, which forced him to sit out the series against our neighbors. He continued to experience discomfort which ruled him out of Border-Gavaskar test series, and subsequently missing the ODI series against Australia.
Jason Roy could fill in the gap of an explosive batter which KKR had in Litton Das, as stand-in skipper Nitish Rana would like to play Jason Roy as an opener, owing to his attacking prowess.
Jason Roy had hit a 49 ball century last season in Pakistan Super League as KKR fans will hope to see some glimpses of his explosive batting.
