IPL 2023: Warner to lead DC, While SRH to have Markram as their Leader

The clock is ticking down fast for the opening match of IPL 2023, which will see some franchises go in with new captains.

The Delhi Capitals is one team who will be forced to appoint a new captain for this year’s IPL. The Delhi franchise, which is yet to lay their hands on the glitzy IPL trophy, will miss the services of regular skipper Rishabh Pant, who has been ruled out of action for nearly a year because of multiple injuries following a major car accident.

As per reports, it will not be another Indian who takes over the reigns from Pant. According to reports, Delhi has picked Australian opener David Warner as skipper for IPL 2023.

In-form Axar to take Deputy responsibilities

“David will be our captain and Axar Patel will be his deputy,” a member of the ownership group of Delhi Capitals told Cricbuzz.

While all-rounder Axar has proved to be a crucial figure, Warner was picked ahead of the Indian due to his experience as a captain. The Australian had led Sunrisers to the IPL title in 2016.

Sunrisers Hyderabad announce new captain for the IPL 2023

Ahead of IPL 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad named South African batter Aiden Markram as their new skipper.

The former IPL champions had parted ways with skipper Kane Williamson after a dismal show and since the auction fans had been waiting with bated breath for the team to announce their new captain. The two favourites for the captaincy role were Mayank Agarwal and Aiden Markram, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar was also pegged as a strong contender.

On Thursday, the Hyderabad IPL franchise ended the wait as they named the South African batter as their new captain. New recruit Mayank Agarwal, who had led the Punjab Kings for a full season in the last IPL edition, didn’t impress as captain or as a batter. On the other hand, Bhuvneshwar, who has been with the team longer than the other two had led SRH on a few occasions, but Markram was picked ahead of the Indian bowler.

Can Markram break SRH’s wait for the maiden IPL Trophy?

Recently, Markram led Sunrisers’ sister franchise Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the title in the inaugural edition of the SA20. He put up a stellar show with the bat and ball and led the team from the front.

Having proved his caliber to shoulder responsibility and deliver, the South African all-rounder was rewarded by the 2016 IPL champions as the new skipper for the upcoming edition of the glitzy Indian T20 league.
