IPL 2023 Schedule Announced: Defending Champions Gujarat Titans to Open the Season Against Chennai Super Kings

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to begin on March 31, with defending champions Gujarat Titans to face off against four-time winners Chennai Super Kings in the opening match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The official schedule for the 2023 IPL was announced on Friday in Jio Cinemas. The 16th season of the league will consist of 70 league matches, with 18 double headers, and will be played across 12 venues in India. These venues include Ahmedabad, Mohali, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Jaipur, Mumbai, Guwahati, and Dharamsala.

The tournament will begin five days after the conclusion of the inaugural WPL. All teams will play seven home and away matches during their league campaign. Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on Rajasthan Royals on April 2, while Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Mumbai Indians on the same day in their first games of the season.

In addition to the teams’ first games of the season, there will be a double-header on April 1, with Punjab Kings taking on Kolkata Knight Riders in the first game of the day. This match will be followed by a game between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals.

The last time the entire tournament was held in its traditional home and away format was in 2019. Due to the pandemic, the 2020 edition was played entirely in the UAE, while the 2021 edition began in India but was suspended midway through the season due to COVID-19. The remainder of the 2021 tournament was held in the UAE.

The 2023 IPL will provide a boost to Indian cricket, which has been hit hard by the pandemic in the last couple of years.
