IPL 2023 RCB Vs CSK: Virat Kohli Fined 10% of Match Fees for Breaching IPL Code of Conduct

On Monday, 17th April, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star, Virat Kohli was fined 10% of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The announcement was made by the Indian Premier League (IPL) advisory after the high-octane encounter that saw RCB lose by 8 runs.

The Incident in Question

Kohli admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which led to the fine. The specific incident was not mentioned in the statement, but it is believed that it may have been due to Kohli’s exuberant celebration of CSK batter Shivam Dube’s wicket. Dube was caught by Mohammed Siraj in the deep during the 17th over, and was threatening to take the game away from RCB.

While Kohli may have been disappointed with his team’s loss, he didn’t have a great game with the bat himself. After hitting a boundary against left-arm pacer Akash Singh, he got unlucky when the ball hit him off the bat and ricocheted into the stumps, forcing him to walk back to the dugout in the very first over of the match.

CSK Sets High Target and Wins Despite Strong Performances from RCB

The match was a high-scoring one, with CSK setting a target of 227 runs for RCB to chase. Attacking fifties from Devon Conway (83 off 45) and Shivam Dube (52 off 27) powered CSK to 226/6. Despite the strong performances by RCB’s Glenn Maxwell (76 off 36) and Faf Du Plessis (62 off 33), the CSK bowlers held their nerve and managed to secure the win.
