IPL 2023: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) thrashed Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 112 runs in Match 60 of IPL 2023, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 172 runs, RR were bowled out for 59 in 10.3 overs, the third lowest in IPL history and lowest in this season. Shimron Hetmyer top-scored for RR with a knock of 35 runs off 19 balls. Initially, half-centuries by Faf du Plessis (55 off 44 balls) and Glenn Maxwell (54 off 33 deliveries) took RCB to 171/5 in 20 overs. Adam Zampa and KM Asif took two wickets each for RR.
RCB Bowlers finally break the shackles to produce biggest win of IPL 2023
Opting to bat, skipper Faf du Plessis fell after scoring 55 off 44 followed by Glenn Maxwell’s 54 off 33 RCB post a competitive score. Anuj Rawat’s late blistering deserves a mention as it took the team to 171 for five by the end of 20 overs. Rawat’s brief yet impactful innings becomes even more important as it came after a streak of wickets falling like jenga blocks. Smashing the ball at a strike rate of 263.64, his 29* off 11 included 3 boundaries and 2 maximums which came on the final 2 balls of the first inning.
Moreover, their bowlers, led by Wayne Parnell (3/10) then put up scintillating display to bowl out Rajasthan for a paltry 59 in 10.3 overs. Michael Bracewell (2/16)and Karn Sharma (2/19) picked two wickets each. Safe to say, an all-round bowling effort led by Wayne Parnell’s three-wicket haul bundled out RR for a paltry 59.
With the win, RCB moved to fifth position on IPL 2023 points table with 12 points after twelve matches and kept playoff hopes alive, while RR moved to sixth with 12 points from 13 matches and are very likely out of the playoff race although they are mathematically still alive.
