IPL 2023: Naveen-ul-Haq breaks silence over alleged ‘I am sorry Virat Kohli’ tweet

Even though the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 ended for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)’ pacer Naveen-ul-Haq but he is still in the limelight.

Last Wednesday, LSG’s IPL campaign came to an end when they suffered a disappointing 81-run defeat against Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator at the Chepauk Stadium, Chennai. Following LSG’s exit from IPL 2023, a tweet went viral on the internet from an account named ‘@naveenulhaq66’ that posted an apology towards Viral Kohli, even tagging the RCB batter in the tweet.

Naveen-ul-Haq urges fans to report fake acount

This post went viral on social media in a jiffy, garnering over 40,000 likes and 3800 plus retweets. However, when Naveen came to know about this, he was quick to share the reality of that post. As the account also had a blue tick, netizens could not stop talking about it.

Naveen shared a story on his official Instagram on Saturday (May 27), clarifying that it was a fake account and urged fans to report it if they receive any message from the account.

“Form (from) this fake account; whoever has gotten messages, please report it, thanks,” he wrote, while sharing a screenshot of the fake account.

Since Naveen was involved in heated argument with Virat Kohli, the Afghanistan pacer is facing trolling from netzines and in the stadium as well. Whatever, the venue and the team, the crowd broke into “Kohli, Kohli” chants whenever he came to bowl.

After the eliminator match against MI, Naveen opined about the “Kohli, Kohli” chants saying he did not concentrate on the outside noise and only focused on his bowling.

“I enjoy it. I like the crowd chanting his [Virat Kohli’s] name or any other player’s name. It gives me passion to play well for my team,” Naveen said in the post-match presentation.

“Well, I don’t concentrate on the noise from the outside or anything else. I just focus on my own process. It’s not like if the crowd is chanting or anyone is saying something… it doesn’t affect me. As professional sportsmen, you have to take this in your stride. One day you will not do your best for the team and the fans will give it to you. On another day, you will do a special thing for your team and the same people can chant your name. So, [it’s] basically a part and parcel of the game,” he continued.
