IPL 2023 MI vs RCB: SKY, Wadhera help Mumbai brush aside Bangalore to grab third spot

A brilliant effort by Suryakumar Yadav helped Mumbai Indians demolish Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. The ‘360 degree’ player hammered 83 off 35 balls as Mumbai completed the stiff 200-run chase in 16.3 overs.

With this, the 32-year-old smashed his highest score in IPL history. His previous highest score of 82 runs off 40 deliveries had come against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2021. Suryakumar smashed seven fours and six sixes in his knock against RCB.

Nehal Wadhera also completed his half-century, while Ishan Kishan chipped in 42(31) at the top.

In the first innings, the MI bowlers produced an inspiring comeback helping the side recover from Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis’ onslaught and kept RCB below 200(199/6). Maxwell smashed 68 in 33 balls, while Du Plessis scored 65(41). The pair added 120 runs for the third wicket after RCB were reduced to 16/2 in 2.2 overs. Mumbai, who opted to field, kicked-off the proceedings on a perfect note as Jason Behrendorff removed Kohli for 1. Behrendorff was the most successful among the MI bowlers as he scalped three wickets and conceded 36 in his four overs.

First Time In IPL: Rohit Sharma Hits New Low With 5th Successive Single Digit Score

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma had yet another forgettable outing in the IPL 2023 in a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. With MI chasing a huge 200-run target against RCB, much was expected from the skipper. However, Rohit was dismissed in the fifth over by Wanindu Hasaranga. Rohit wanted to steer a delivery by Hasarange to leg-side only to be hit on the front pad on the final ball of the over. Though the on-field umpire gave not out, RCB took review and Rohit was out on 7 off eight balls.

This is the first time that Rohit Sharma has been dismissed for five successive single figure scores in the T20 league. His previous worst being four single-digit scores in IPL 2017. Rohit Sharma last five innings: 2(8b), 3(5b), 0(3b), 0(3b), 7(8b).
