IPL 2023 MI vs PBKS: Arshdeep Singh breaks LED stumps worth 30 lakh twice; leads Punjab to memorable victory against MI at Wankhede

Arshdeep Singh breaks 24 lakh LED stumps twice: 24-year-old Arshdeep Singh bowled a sensational last over against the Mumbai Indians, conceding only 2 runs when MI needed 16 runs off 6 balls, to help Punjab Kings win the high-scoring encounter by 13 runs.

In a match where 415 runs were scored in 40 overs, Arshdeep Singh returned with terrific figures of 4/29. His last two wickets came in the last over – BOWLED Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera. The left-arm seamer had the great temperament to execute his plans under such immense pressure.

In a high-pressure last-over situation, Arshdeep Singh nailed his yorkers to Varma and Wadhera and, sensationally, broke the middle stump. On both occasions, Arshdeep Singh’s superb yorker, which tailed a little bit due to reverse swing, hit the middle of the middle stump and broke it into two pieces, one with the stump mic flying out of the ground.

The LED stumps and bails used in the IPL are very expensive: A set of LED stumps and Zing bails cost around $40,000 – that is INR 30 lakh!

Because of the LED and sensitivity meters embedded in the stumps and zing bails – the stumps and bail light up as soon as a corner of bail is dislodged – these are comparatively a lot more expensive than the normal set of stumps.

The LED stumps and Zing bails were first used at the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup. Since then, they have become commonplace in major white-ball cricket matches – boards who could afford them – and also in Test matches in some parts of the world.
