IPL 2023: Jos Buttler equals record for most ducks in a season

The 60th match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) played between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) saw not one or two but several historical feats taking place. With Rajasthan suffering the biggest loss of IPL 2023, Jos Buttler also registered an uninvited record on his name.

While IPL brings an image of fours and sixes being smashed around the ground, batsmen getting dismissed on ducks (0 runs) is rarely talked about. However, RR opener Jos Buttler had another duck marked on his tally of most ducks in a single IPL season.

After the dismissal of Yashaswi Jaiswal, the Man of the Match Wayne Parnell struck twice as he removed Buttler and Samson in the same over. Consequently, Buttler set an unflattering record during the match against RCB.

The star England batter tied the record for the most ducks in an IPL season by an opener with four ducks.  Apart from the keeper-batter, the two openers who have been dismissed for four ducks in an IPL season are South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs (DCH) in 2009 and Shikhar Dhawan (DC/DD) in 2020.

Talking further about the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore notched up a comprehensive 112-run win over Rajasthan Royals to strengthen their IPL play-off chances, on Sunday.

Opting to bat, skipper Faf du Plessis (55 off 44) and Glenn Maxwell (54 of 33) scored half-centuries to help RCB post a competitive 171 for five. Their bowlers, led Wayne Parnell (3/10) then put up scintillating display to bowl out Rajasthan for a paltry 59 in 10.3 overs. Michael Bracewell (2/16)and Karn Sharma (2/19) picked two wickets each.

Earlier, du Plessis and Maxwell stitched a 69-run partnership for the second wicket to set the platform for the total.
But the middle order once again failed to fire as RCB lost four wickets for just 18 runs.
