It is set to be a newer army of yellow soldiers as injured Kyle Jamieson is set to miss the IPL due to a forced injury. In place of the Kiwi all-rounder, South African all-rounder Sisanda Magala is signed by Chennai Super Kings- much to be a like-for-like replacement.
He joins “The Yellow Army” for a base price of 50 lakhs.
Huge blow for Chennai Super Kings
New Zealand pacer all-rounder Kyle Jamieson has been suffering from a back injury since last year. The four time champions Chennai suffered a huge blow after Jamieson’s ruling out of IPL.
The 6 feet 7 inches tall, lanky quick bowler had picked up the back injury, and his recurring setback forces him out of the 16th edition of the IPL. He also missed the test series against England last month, picking up the injury during his side’s test preparations.
He is slated to undergo back surgery, ruling him out of this year’s IPL, starting from 31st March, with defending champions Gujarat Titans taking on four times winner, Chennai Super Kings.
Quick replacement on the radar
Chennai did not waste much time as they immediately picked Proteas all-rounder Magala, who has played international matches for South Africa on four occasions, taking three scalps. He comes back from an impressive campaign of inaugural SAT20 league- the South Africa t20 league tournament, which kicked off its inaugural edition this year.
An official statement of the Chennai Super Kings reported, “Chennai Super Kings have signed South Africa pacer Sisanda Magala as a replacement for New Zealand bowler Kyle Jamieson for IPL 2023. Jamieson, who was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury, was bought by the franchise for INR 1 Crore.
His replacement, Magala, has rich experience in the shortest format of the game. Though he has played just 4 T20Is for South Africa, Magala has a reputation of being a regular wicket-taker in domestic T20 games over the years. He will join CSK at his base price of INR 50 Lakh.
