INDvsWI: Virat Kohli hits the much-awaited 76th century in his 500th International Match

INDvsWI: Indian ace batter Virat Kohli brought up his 29th Test ton and his 76th 100 overall against the West Indies in the second day of the second Test on Friday. This was Kohli’s first international century overseas since 2018. His last ton in overseas Tests came in December 2018 when India was on tour in Australia.

Ravindra Jadeja aptly supported his partner as he brought up his own 50, his 19th Test half century,  as the pair crossed 150-run partnership within the first hour of the day’s play.

A video has gone viral showing former Team India captain Virat Kohli’s Shubman Gill-like celebration after scoring his hundred in his 500th international match. The 34-year-old bowed down to celebrate after reaching the three-figure mark against West Indies in the ongoing second Test. Kohli has now slammed 29 Test hundreds and overall 76 international hundreds.

The right-handed batter hit ten fours en route to his hundred that came off 180 balls. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal once again got their team off to a great start. They stitched together a 139-run opening partnership, but once they departed, Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane also followed in quick succession. Team India were in a tricky spot at 182/4 on Day 1, but the solid partnership between Kohli and Jadeja ensured that India stay well on course for a big first-inning score.

Kohli’s 29th Test ton helps India push their advantage, His 159-run stand with Jadeja took India close to 350. Kohli looked just as assured and found his timing like he did yesterday. Jadeja was smart with his play and both batters ticked along in the first hour. After drinks, Kohli was caught in a slight mix-up and was run out, Jadeja got caught behind.

Replays have shown that the bat was next to pad and the outside edge when the ball passed bat but the third umpire was convinced he hit it and gave it out. Kishan has been positive thus far. For West Indies, Roach persistence on a tight line and a good length has been admirable. Warrican tossing the ball up and bowling in a good channel was noteworthy as well.

Meanwhile, after winning the first Test by an innings and 141 runs, India will be aiming to win the second Test and pick up full points from the series, which is the first for Rohit Sharma’s men in the 2023-2025 World Test Championship cycle.
