INDvsWI 1st ODI: India win 9th ODI in a row against West Indies to break multiple records

INDvsWI 1st ODI: The West Indies put up a weak showing at the plate, scoring just 114 runs in just 23 overs. India, however, has experienced a small slump as a result. India decided to give the middle order hitters some time out, so Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli did not start in their normal places.

Ishan Kishan got a half-century, while other players contributed very little. After Kishan eventually went for 52 off 46, India had reached 97/5 after 17.2 overs when Rohit Sharma finally entered the batting order. Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja grabbed three wickets while Kuldeep Yadav finished with unbelievable figures of 4/6 in just three overs.

West Indies were all out for 114 after starting the innings at 88/3 in 15.4 overs. Shai Hope, the captain, cut a desolate figure as West Indies kept losing wickets at one end while he was stuck at the other. He ultimately lost for 43 off of 45 balls. When Rohit finally entered the game at No. 7, Kohli was cushioned and scored the winning runs. India ultimately triumphed by five wickets.

INDvsWI 1st ODI: Kuldeep Yadav records best-ever ODI bowling figures by an Indian on WI soil in just 3 overs

Team India spinner Kuldeep Yadav on Thursday created history by recording the best-ever ODI bowling figures by an Indian bowler on West Indies soil. Kuldeep registered figures of 3-2-6-4 in the first ODI in Barbados as West Indies were dismissed for 114 runs in 23 overs. The previous record was held by Bhuvneshwar Kumar (6-1-8-4).

With only his third ball, Kuldeep struck, bowling a wrong ‘un that sailed over Dominic Drakes’ inside edge and caught him in front. While standing at the opposite end, staring helplessly, Yannic Cariah arrived and went with Hope. He smoked Jadeja for a massive six over long-off, but when he missed a reverse-sweep and was subsequently pinned in front, he became Kuldeep’s third victim. Kuldeep eliminated Jayden Seales to secure his four-wicket haul. This was West Indies’ joint-third-lowest total at home and their second-lowest total in ODIs versus India.

Rohit Sharma heaps praise on the top performers as India take 1-0 lead in three-match series

India skipper Rohit Sharma: “I never thought the pitch would play like that, it was the team’s need to bowl first and have a score. The pitch had everything for seamers and spinners, our guys did well to restrict them to that score. We wanted to give game time to the ODI guys who have come in, we will keep trying those things whenever possible. To restrict them to 115, we knew we could try these guys and give them a go. I don’t think they’ll get many chances like this. I made my debut for India and was batting at number 7, reminding me of those days. Mukesh was brilliant, he can swing the ball at a good pace. Good to see what he can offer, I haven’t seen him much in domestic cricket. No matter the conditions, we need to bowl in the right areas to restrict them and I thought our bowlers did brilliantly. And then Ishan was good with the bat as well.”
