Indian Squad for remaining tests, ODI series against Australia: Jaydev Unadkat returns after 9 years, Bumrah yet to come back

The Indian selection committee on Sunday retained the team for the third and fourth Tests against Australia, keeping faith in KL Rahul despite his repeated failures. Injured Bumrah yet to be included in the Indian squad.

Seasoned left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat, who was part of the national team for the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy but was released to represent Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy final against Bengal, is back in the team for the remaining two matches.

Sarfaraz Khan has once again missed out from Tests.

Interestingly, the selection committee has decided not to declare the vice-captain for now. Moreover, the right to decide his deputy has been given to Rohit Sharma.

Indian squad for third and fourth Tests: 

Rohit Sharma (c), K L Rahul, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, KS Bharat (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammad Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat.

Jaydev Undakat, who was released from the Test squad ahead of the Delhi encounter, which India won on Sunday, 19 February, has been added to both squads. 

Unadkat went on to lead Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy final against Bengal at Kolkata. The side put up a comprehensive performance and won the final by nine wickets with Unadkat declared the Player of the Match for his 9/129 in the game.

No comeback for Jasprit Bumrah

Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who was doubtful for the Test series against Australia, has not been named in the Indian squad for the third and fourth matches of the high-profile Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The apex cricket board of India has also announced India’s One Day International (ODI) squad for the bilateral series against Australia. With Bumrah still recovering from his back injury, the BCCI has named an unchanged Indian squad for the 3rd and 4th Tests against Australia.

Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, K L Rahul, Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (Vice-captain), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Jaydev Unadkat.

 Note: Rohit Sharma will be unavailable for the first ODI due to family commitments and Hardik Pandya will lead the side in the first ODI.

Jaydev Unadkat returns to the ODI side after 9 years

Jaydev Unadkat has made his return to the Indian ODI squad after a nine-year wait as he was picked for the three-match series against Australia starting on 17th March.

Unadkat, who had made his Test return in Bangladesh last year, played his last one-day international against West Indies in 21st November 2013 after making his debut in the same year against Zimbabwe at Harare.

Moreover, even after scoring 284 runs at a 71 average and 105 strike rate in 2022, Sanju Samson has been once again ignored in ODIs.
