India wins the series 1-0 as rain washes out the final day of the Second Test against West Indies

This is India’s ‘Ninth’ straight Test series win against West Indies

Rohit Sharma won his first series as captain as India beat West Indies 1-0 in the two-match test series after the second match ended in a draw courtesy of rain having the last say on the final day of the test series.

This was also Rohit’s first overseas win as captain in tests. Interestingly Rohit was appointed as the captain of the Indian test team in 2022 when Virat Kohli gave up the test captaincy after losing the series against South Africa in South Africa.

Rohit was not part of the team when India toured England in 2022, he was also ruled out of the two-match test series in Bangladesh due to a finger injury in the second ODI against Bangladesh.

Youngsters Take Charge

Coming back to the test series against West Indies. India has earned a lot of positives from the series which can play a crucial role in the two-year WTC cycle which kicked off with the series against West Indies. Talking about the positives from the batting point of view you cannot overlook the contribution of Yashaswi Jaiswal.

The left-hander showed great maturity while opening the batting by scoring a century on a tough pitch in his first test innings which was also his international debut.

The batter showed that he can bat in different gears in a test match. Ishan Kishan who also made his debut in this series performed decently both behind and Infront of the wickets as he kept well on a spinning wicket in Dominica and most importantly held onto the catches and scored his maiden fifty in an aggressive in the second innings in Trinidad when he was promoted in the batting order.

Siraj the Leader

One of the biggest questions before the series was who will lead the pace attack in the absence of Shami? Siraj did that well by picking up five wickets on a dead pitch. He was well supported by Mukesh who made his test debut in Trinidad and bowled his heat out in the second match.

The spinners went about their work in a normal fashion as the spin duo of Ashwin and Jadeja completed 500 wickets as a pair in test cricket. They are now just one wicket away from equaling Kumble and Harbhajan’s record of the most successful spin duo for India in tests.
