India Breaks ‘World Record’ for Fastest Team 100 in Test Cricket

Team India reached the mark of 100 runs in 12.2 overs

When the fourth day of the second test match between India and West Indies began everyone was expecting the match to be heading towards a draw as nothing was happening from the pitch and the ball was coming onto the bat nicely with bowlers finding it difficult to pick up wickets on a slow and low pitch with almost no assistance from the pitch. On top of that, the slow batting approach from the West Indies made it even more difficult to get the match moving.

Forcing the pace

All that changed with the second new ball when the new pace duo of Siraj and debutant Mukesh Kumar got the ball talking at the start of day four. With rain threatening to play a part on every day of the test match it was necessary for team India to make things happen which was not the case till day three as things were meandering along at a very slow pace. Mukesh Kumar started the collapse as he trapped Alick Athanaze in front after the batter had scored 37 eating up 115 balls in the process. It was a key dismissal as it was the start of a collapse as West Indies lost their last five wickets for 47 runs. Mohmmad Siraj was the Recker in chief as the fast bowler picked up the last four wickets of West Indies along with picking a solitary wicket on day three which helped him in picking up only his second five-wicket haul after getting his maiden one in his first test series in Australia at Brisbane in 2021.

New World Record

Having done a good job with the ball it was now up to the batters to make the most of it by scoring quick runs to force a result. The opening duo of Yashaswi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma did so by adding 98 runs in just 12 overs. Although the openers failed to make the record for adding 100 runs each for the first wicket in the first three innings as an opening pair as Indian captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed after scoring a quick-fire half-century. Another record awaited India as the team brought up its 100 in just 12.2 overs which is the world record for the fastest team hundred in test cricket.
