According to reports from Cricbuzz, Shami’s recovery progress may keep him out of contention for the two-match series against the Proteas. It is anticipated that Shami won’t accompany the Indian squad, led by Rohit Sharma, on their journey to South Africa this Friday. The absence of Shami, known for his exceptional performance on African soil, leaves a void in the Indian pace attack.
While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not officially announced Shami’s replacement, it is speculated that a pacer from India’s white-ball squad may step in for the Test series. Shami’s remarkable record in South Africa, with 35 wickets in eight Tests at a stellar strike rate of 44.66, underscores the challenge of finding a suitable replacement.
In light of Shami’s potential absence, the emerging fast bowler Prasidh Krishna appears to be a leading candidate for the role of the third seamer.
