IND VS SA 2nd Test: India lose last six wickets without adding a run

IND VS SA 2nd Test: The Indian cricket team faced a significant setback on Day 1 of the second and final Test against South Africa at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town, drawing attention for their sudden collapse. Initially positioned at a promising 153 for 4, holding a 96-run lead over South Africa, India experienced a dramatic downturn, losing six wickets without adding a single run to their total and ultimately being bowled out for 153 runs. The damaging over was orchestrated by Lungi Ngidi, who claimed three wickets, while Rabada contributed with two.

Earlier in the match, India had showcased their dominance by dismissing the hosts for a mere 55 runs in the first innings, marking South Africa’s lowest total against India in Test cricket. The Indian innings began on a positive note, with skipper Rohit Sharma (39) and Shubman Gill (36) forging a crucial partnership.

However, the fortunes took a turn after the dismissals of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. Virat Kohli then shouldered the responsibility, guiding the team past the 150-run mark with his contribution of 46 runs. The turning point came in the 34th over when Lungi Ngidi’s three-wicket burst saw the fall of KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah.

The situation worsened in the subsequent over as Mohammed Siraj was run out, and Kagiso Rabada added to India’s woes by dismissing Virat Kohli and Prasidh Krishna, completing the collapse that culminated in India being bowled out for 153 runs. The sudden turn of events highlighted the challenges faced by the Indian batting lineup against the South African bowling attack on an eventful day at Newlands Cricket Ground.
