Ind vs Pak: Virat Kohli hits 47th ODI century, breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s record for fastest to 13000 runs

Ind vs Pak: On Monday, September 11, Virat Kohli broke the record for the quickest batter reaching 13000 runs in ODIs. The veteran broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record, which he had set against Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2004.

At the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, during India’s Asia Cup 2023 Super Four match against Pakistan, Kohli accomplished the feat. While Sachin reached the milestone in his 321st innings, Kohli did so in his 267th ODI innings.

In the meantime, Delhi-born Kohli scored his 47th century in ODIs and is now just two centuries short of Tendulkar’s record for centuries in the 50-over version of international cricket. To get the three-figure mark, Kohli flicked Shaheen Shah Afridi’s third delivery of the 48th over to the off side.

Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma gave India a fast start before Kohli entered the game. Rohit was knocked out by Shadab Khan, and Kohli then exited. Soon after, Gill lost another wicket for the Men in Blue because to Shaheen Shah Afridi’s cunning.

Kohli was undefeated on eight runs when the rain stopped play. At 4:40 PM IST, as play resumed on reserve day, Kohli appeared a little hesitant to begin his bat. But he steadily increased the pressure till he reached fifty off 55 balls.

After scoring fifty runs, Kohli increased his pace even further and began attacking the Pakistani bowlers. He also brought up his 100-run partnership with KL Rahul during this time, who was in fine form upon his comeback from an injury layoff.

Virat Kohli (122 not out) and KL Rahul (111 not out) struck unbeaten centuries to steer India to a commanding 356 for two against Pakistan in a Super 4 match of the Asia Cup on Monday. Kohli and Rahul shared an unbeaten 233-run stand, off 194 balls, after India started the reserve day on 147 for two. It was India’s joint-highest total against Pakistan in ODIs. Part-time spinner Iftikhar Ahmed leaked 52 runs in 5.4 overs.
