Ind vs NZ T20I: Prithvi Shaw earns much deserved comeback in Indian Colors

After some stellar performance with the bat in the domestic circuit, Prithvi Shaw had made a comeback into the Indian team. He has been named in the 16-member T20I squad to take on New Zealand at home.

The right-handed batsman has rightly earned his spot in the team through consistent performance at the domestic circuit. He recently scored a record-breaking 379 runs against Assam in a Ranji Trophy group stage match in Amingaon. This was the second highest individual score in the history of Ranji Trophy.

He was also one of the leading run-scorers in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Shaw last featured in the Indian team back in July 2021 during the Sri Lanka tour. After toiling hard in domestic cricket, this is a well-deserved call for the Mumbaikar.

Hardik Pandya to continue as T20 captain

Talking about the T20I squad, Hardik Pandya will hold the captaincy mantle with senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma continue to remain on the side-lines. It will be a young brigade which will take the field against the Kiwis. Jitesh Sharma who came in as a replacement of Sanju Samson in the Sri Lanka series, will continue to be in the squad as Samson is yet to recover from injury.

The BCCI also confirmed that KL Rahul and Axar Patel will miss out on both the ODI and T2O series, owing to family duties. As a result, KS Bharat and Shahbaz Ahmed have been called up as replacements in the ODI squad.

Kuldeep Yadav who has given amazing performances in tests and ODIs, has been called up in the T20is. Along with him, all-rounder Shardul Thakur will be making a comeback as he  has been included in both the ODI and T20 squads.

India is set to play New Zealand in a three match ODI and three match T20 series. The ODI series will commence from 18th January onwards in Hyderabad and will then move to Raipur and Indore on January 21 and 24 respectively.

While the T20 series will start from 27 of January in Ranchi. It will then move to Lucknow and Ahmedabad on January 29 and February 1 respectively for the remaining matches.
