Virat Kohli finished his marathon innings at 186 runs, narrowly missing out on his 8th double century as he holed out to Marnus Labuschagne off Todd Murphy’s bowling.

Kohli struck his first Test century in more than three years as India reached 475 for five at tea on day four of the fourth and final match of the Border-Gavaskar trophy Kohli was unbeaten on 135 (291 balls; 10×4) alongside Axar Patel (38 not out; 75 balls, 3×4, 1×6). Srikar Bharat, Axar Patel comes to rescue

There have been some complain about the middle order of Indian team failing to deliver. But in the first inning of the final game the questions raised against the same were answered by a great inning of KS Bharat.

He joined the ex-skipper in the middle after India had lost their fourth wicket in the form of Jadeja. Bharat has been known to have potential. And even after showing glimpses of the same, he had failed to deliver and make it big.

In this inning however he changed that narrative around him by forging a 84-run partnership with Virat Kohli for the 5th wicket. He contributed the majority of runs in this partnership and also scored his career best of 44 in international cricket before being dismissed.

The rest was done by Axar Patel, the man in song with the bat in hand. He smashed his third fifty of the series to help his team not only register the lead, but also go beyond. The southpaw added a total of 162 runs along with Virat Kohli to help India past the Aussie lead of 480.

He scored another quickfire inning of 79 runs from just 113 balls before being dismissed by Mitchell Starc. With this inning he overtakes the India skipper Rohit Sharma to become the third highest run scorer in the series with 264 runs to his name.

How can India Qualify for World Test Championship Final?

India will be looking to win the IND VS AUS 4th Test and the series 3-1 series in order to qualify for the World Test Championship final. If they lose this match and Sri Lanka win their ongoing series against New Zealand 2-0 then the Lankans will qualify for the WTC final against Australia.

In case India play a draw, and Sri Lanka fail to clean sweep the Kiwis, the WTC final will be between India and Australia in June at the Oval.
