In recent cricket updates, with 554 maximums, Indian captain Rohit Sharma now holds the record for most sixes in international cricket, surpassing Chris Gayle. With his clean, powerful hitting that has soared to 94 runs in the first 10 overs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, the 36-year-old has destroyed the Afghanistan bowling attack.

In 473 international innings, Rohit has surpassed Gayle with 554 sixes. In 551 games across all formats, the great from the Caribbean amassed 553 hits for his country.

“I want to break Chris Gayle’s six-hititng record. Never in my life I would have imagined that I will break the Chris Gayle’s record. It’s funny (flex muscles),” Rohit had told journalist Vimal Kumar in an interview on the latter’s YouTube channel last month.

“I am not a muscle guy but I like to hit the bowl hard. When I started playing cricket, I was told that timing is important. Aerial shots were a big no. We were told that you can play aerial shots. Basic was to keep your head intact, keep the bat close to your body and play the bowl along the carpet. If we used to play aerial shots, coach used to throw us out from the game,” Rohit had added.

Earlier, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Afghanistan’s captain, scored 80 runs in the first innings to help the team reach 272/8. Azmatullah Omarzai added 62 runs to the total.

Rohit Sharma celebrates 1,000 World Cup runs with 30-ball fifty

India captain Rohit Sharma not only smashed a brilliant fifty off 30 balls, but he also became the joint-fastest batsman in World Cup history with 1000 runs. Additionally, Rohit surpassed former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s World Cup run total of 1,006 runs.

With five tonnes, the Mumbaikar shattered the record for most hundreds in a single edition in the 2019 event. Rohit emerged as the tournament’s top scorer with 648 runs. Rohit and Sachin Tendulkar are tied for the most hundreds in World Cup history with six each.
