Gongadi Trisha smash magnificent half century in trail times

India made their intent very clear as they won the toss and elected to bat first. It seemed that India might face some problem in the start when they lost their captain and star batter Shefali Verma early on in the innings, who was their most consistent performer in the tournament.

But this young brigade helped themselves out of this situation with a 70 run partnership between Richa Ghosh and Gongadi Trisha for the third wicket. Gongadi Trisha slammed a brilliant 51-ball 57 runs with six fours which steadied the ship for India.

Her partner Richa Ghosh too, played a handy innings of 33 runs. The finishing touches were provided by Shweta Sehrawat with a fiery innings of 31 from just 10 balls which propelled India to a respectable total of 149/4.

Mannat and Archana spin a web to demolish Scotland

In reply, Scotland were blown away inside 14 overs for mere 66 runs as India spun a web around the Scottish batters. There were only two double digit scores in the entire Scotland innings. Both of them were from the openers Ailsa Lister and Darcey Carter scored 14 and 24 respectively.

Left-arm spinner Mannat Kashyap wreaked havoc against the Scottish middle order and finished with magical figures of 4/12. Along with her off-spinner Archana Devi too held the other end tight with match winning figures of 3/14. Mannat was awarded the player of the match for her magic with the ball.

Sonam Yadav, a 15-year-old left-arm spinner, concluded with 2/1 from 1.1 overs to clinch the dominance for India as they toped group D with six points from three games. UAE and South Africa had previously been defeated by India.

India will be recognised as one of the legitimate contenders for the inaugural U19 Women’s T20 World Cup as they now advance to the Super Six stage.

Although this is the end of the journey for Scotland, there were many lessons learned that numerous players will apply to the senior women’s side moving forward.
