World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 winning team to get USD 1.6 million prize money
The championship decider is set to take place at The Oval in London from June 7-11, with June 12 designated as the reserve day.
The grand prize for winning the WTC Final is estimated to be worth Rs 13.22 crore, while the approximate prize money for the runners-up is Rs 6.61 crore.
“There is no change in the tournament prize money, which remains the same as that for the inaugural edition of the championship (2019-21) with a total purse of $3.8 million (Rs 13.22 crore approx.). Kane Williamson’s New Zealand were rewarded with $1.6 million (Rs 6.61 crore approx.) in Southampton in 2021 after they sealed an eight-wicket win over India in the rain-marred six-day WTC final,” the ICC said in a release.
The $3.8 million prize fund will be split among the nine teams, with South Africa receiving $450,000 for placing third in the 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship standings.
England will receive $350,000 for finishing their campaign in fourth position after a late effort.
One of the top teams competing for a spot in the championship game, Sri Lanka, finished fifth and earned $200,000 as compensation.
The remaining teams, New Zealand, Pakistan, the West Indies, and Bangladesh, who are rated Nos. 6, 7, No. 8, and No. 9, will each receive a cheque for $100,000.
