ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Qualifiers: Ireland have been knocked out while Sri Lanka’s win takes Scotland and Oman also through. In the chase, Ireland required a strong performance from one of their key players, Stirling and Balbirnie, but they once again fell short. After appearing strong, Tector was caught lbw by Hasaranga as Stirling collapsed under the strain. The others joined in as the Hasaranga concert began.
The game was over after Tector’s wicket, but Dockrell and Campher fought back for a while as Hasaranga kept making small gains. Despite giving up 79 runs, he eventually took his wicket, sending Ireland home with the final ball of his spell. Sri Lanka put on yet another strong performance and appears to be the side to beat in this competition. For Ireland, it’s back to the drawing board and this non-qualification will be a big blow to their hopes.

Wanindu Hasaranga’s third fifer and Dimuth Karunaratne’s first ODI century helped Sri Lanka defeat Ireland by 133 runs, ending their chances of qualifying for the 50-over World Cup later this year. Ireland suffered their third straight loss in the qualifications despite Mark Adair’s four-wicket haul, while Sri Lanka maintained their lead in the standings.
Barry McCarthy, who was given the opportunity to bat, quickly and cheaply bowled Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis, shocking Sri Lanka early on. The Sri Lankan innings was stabilised, though, by a 168-run partnership between Sadeera Samarawickrama and Karunaratne. Only four boundaries were hit by Smaarawickrama in his 86-ball 82.
Charith Asalanka and Dhanajaya de Silva added quick runs in the last overs to assist Sri Lanka surpass the 300-run threshold after the duo left the pitch in rapid succession. Late in the Sri Lankan innings, Adair scooped up three wickets and bowled them out, although they still managed to score 325.
Owing to Ireland’s loss, Oman and Scotland made it to the Super Six
Oman and Scotland also advanced to the Super Six before the game was over thanks to Ireland’s defeat. However, Scotland defeated Oman by a score of 76 runs. Zimbabwe, the West Indies, and the Netherlands are the other three Super Six teams.
Scotland defeated Oman by a comfortable margin of 76 runs, their third straight victory in the competition, thanks in large part to Brendon McMullen’s first ODI century. Oman did, however, make it through to the Super Sixes despite the defeat.

Four matches to go in Group stage and the Super 6 is already set. Zimbabwe, Netherlands and West Indies have sealed spots in Super 6 from Group A. Frim Group B, Sri Lanka made it a hat-trick of win to seal Super 6 spot. Scotland and Oman are the two other teams from Group B to qualify with World Cup qualifiers still up for grabs. However, Nepal, United States, Ireland and United Arab Emirates have ended their hopes with four games left to be played.
