England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Wednesday announced their 15-person provisional squad for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India.

England have made a number of big calls with their initial squad for this year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, with all-rounder Ben Stokes named in a group of 15 players that does not include young batter Harry Brook and star quick Jofra Archer.

It was revealed on Wednesday that Stokes had reversed his decision to retire from ODI cricket and would return for next month’s four-match ODI series against New Zealand. England selector Luke Wright later confirmed the same 15 players named to take on the Kiwis are also the provisional World Cup squad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) senior men’s selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar declared the Indian squad for the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup starting from October 5 in India.

Three players, namely: Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma, and Prasidh Krishna, who are a part of the traveling contingent to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup, have missed out of the squad for the World Cup. KL Rahul, who was undergoing rehabilitation in the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, has been declared fit and will be a part of the 15-man squad for the quadrennial competition.

Pakistan squad for ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023:

Shadab Khan will continue to serve as the team’s vice-captain while Babar Azam will lead the squad. Pacer Naseem Shah has been replaced by Hasan Ali since he has been ruled out of the competition owing to a shoulder injury.

Ali, however, will be making a one-year comeback to one-day international (ODI) cricket following his final game against the West Indies in Multan in 2022.

The team led by Babar Azam enters the mega-event ranked first. Moreover, has the greatest win/loss ratio of 2.4 for any team that has participated in ODIs during this World Cup cycle.

Sri Lanka announced their 15-member squad on Tuesday, 26 September, just two days before ICC’s cut-off date. Dasun Shanaka leads the side, with Kusal Mendis as his deputy.

The biggest news, however, out of the Sri Lanka camp is the absence of their star spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who has been ruled out with a hamstring injury.

The leg-spinner sustained a thigh strain during last month’s playoffs of the Lankan Premier League, where he concluded the tournament as the top run-scorer with 279 runs and the leading wicket-taker with 19 wickets. The injury subsequently ruled the spinner out of the Asia Cup.

The 13th edition of the Cricket World Cup, an ODI cricket competition held every four years between men’s national teams and hosted by the International Cricket Council (ICC), will take place in 2023. From October 5 to November 19, 2023, India is slated to host it. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was originally supposed to take place from February to March 2023.

The competition will include ten teams, including England, the reigning champions from 2019. India will be the only nation to host the men’s Cricket World Cup; before, the event was co-hosted by other nations in the Indian subcontinent in 1987, 1996, and 2011.

After the Asian Cricket Council stated that the competition would be staged under a hybrid model suggested by the PCB, with nine of the championship’s 13 matches taking place in Sri Lanka, this problem was settled in June 2023.
