I Am Willing To Kill For It: Lisandro Martinez ahead of Carabao Cup Final against Newcastle United

Lisandro Martinez, the Argentine world cup winner is “ready for kill” on Sunday ahead of his team’s Carabao Cup Final clash against the richest club, Newcastle.

It is this mentality that is winning the hearts of the United Fans and making them chanting his name from the stands of the “Theatre of Dreams”.

Lisandro Martinez sends strong message

A young and passionate Centre back, riding on the support of the coach Ten Hag and management staff has been a crowd favorite since the day he joined. Some of the life-long fans of the Club has started to compare him with one of their prolific players of his reign, Nemanja Vidic.

“The Butcher”- as he is fondly called since his Ajax days, has already showed his real class and temperament during the World Cup Round of 16, where his last minute dying tackle against Australian striker has earned him the comparison with another Argentine legend Javier Mascherano.

“We Argentines do everything with passion and when I go out on the pitch, I fight for every ball. If I have to step over dead bodies, I do it.”- it clearly dictates his strong mentality and never-say-never attitude. He would rather kill opponents rather than losing a game.

A Befitting reply to Jamie Carragher

Standing at 5 ft 9, probably one of the shortest defenders in the Premier League , but he paid no heed to the taunts and boos regarding his height.

One of the football pundits of the rival club Liverpool, Jamie Carragher once said “I’m convinced this can’t work because the size of him playing in a back four. Maybe he could go left-back. Maybe he could play in a back three but in a back four, he cannot play there in the Premier League.”

But, who cares! Even if it was in case for other defenders, they could have reciprocated, but Martinez’s field display is enough to shut out his critics as he have had a fair share of them while coming from Ajax.

But he himself has agreed to the fact that it is difficult to play as a Centre back for his height, as he said that it was very hard for him to cope to this situation. He always believed that if he focused on his anticipation of playing , then he might cope with the fact of his lack of height.

He said: “You have to be very clever on the pitch because you have to be sharp in every situation. If you’re smart you can win the duels.”

“Every day you can learn about it. After the game, you have your feelings about the game, but also you have to watch some videos if you want to improve. In my case, I do that.”

World Cup Hero

A soccer-loving lad, who had always seen the dream of playing a World Cup, finally achieved it and came out with flying colors, had been the face of this year’s United defence duo, along with the experienced veteran, French world cup winner Raphael Varane. Mainly owing to this link-up in the back, Manchester United are cruising in this year’s league, and maybe seeing the dream of clinching the cup after many years.

A dream clash on the cards?

Newcastle United, on the other hand is also having a dream run this year. Owing to their performance, they are sitting on the fifth position with a good chance of qualifying for next year’s dream European Campaign, so it might be a clash of the heavyweights, which we should watch out for.
