Harmanpreet Smashes first fifty of WPL 2023; Scores 65 off 30 in opening encounter against Gujarat Giants

Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur has announced her entrance into the WPL 2023 loud and clear. Kaur scored the first fifty in the inaugural match of the Women’s league. Her fifty came just off 22 balls.

Overall, Kaur added a total of 60 runs in her side’s total. Her innings included as much as 14 boundaries, smashing the ball at a massive strike rate of 216.67.

Earlier, Gujarat Giants skipper Beth Mooney won the toss and opted to bowl against Mumbai Indians in the first-ever match of the inaugural Women’s Premier League at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai tonight.

Harmanpreet-led Mumbai Indians sets WPL on fire

After an early blow of opener Yasthika Bhatia, Mumbai Indians got the much needed momentum through Hayley Matthews’ quickfire 47. Then, MI never looked back.

Harmanpreet Kaur stitched a humongous partnership of 99 runs with Amelia Clark.

However, a fabulous inning from Harmanpreet Kaur came to an end when Sneh Rana bowled it fuller and outside off, turning away, as Kaur moved forward and looked to loft it but mistimed it completely. 

Nevertheless, Clark kept smashing the ball off the park, and in the end with Issy Wong’s first ball six took her side to a massive total of 207 in 20 overs.

Thus, Mumbai will certainly be the happier side at the halfway mark and the onus is now on their bowlers to defend this total. On the other hand, Gujarat have their backs against the wall and will need to bat out of their skins to chase this total.
