Mumbai Indians, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, recorded its fifth successive win as it defeat GG for the second time this season to ensure its spot in the WPL 2023 Playoffs.
The top three teams in the five-franchise tournament will proceed to the WPL 2023 Playoffs. The league stage leader will proceed directly to the final while the second and third-placed teams will play in the March 24 eliminator.
Delhi holds the second spot with eight points while UP Warriorz is placed third with four points after four games. Gujarat is stranded on two points from five games while Bangalore is winless from five contests.
WPL 2023 MI vs GG in brief
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s brilliant fifty (51) and Yastika Bhatia’s (44) impressive opening knock led the way for MI before their bowling attack restricted Gujarat to 107/9.
Chasing 163, the Gujarat Giants got off to a shaky start.
Harleen Deol struck three fours to get going but her 22-run knock was put to an end by Issy Wong, who got the GG opener out LBW in the 9th over.
The Sneh Rana-led unit were then reduced to 48/5 at the halfway stage, making the contest a one-sided affair. Among the Mumbai bowlers, Hayley Matthews and Sciver scalped three wickets each, while Amelia Kerr picked two and Issy Wong got one.
GG reached 107/9 at the end of 20 overs as MI clinched another victory to continue their winning run in the season.
Nat Sciver-Brunt leads the batting charts for Mumbai with 182 runs in five innings. While left-arm spinner Saika Ishaque leads the bowling charts with 12 wickets from five matches and is the current holder of the Purple Cap.
