GT vs MI: Shubam Gill smashes highest individual score in IPL playoffs; breaks numerous records

The love affair of Shubman Gill with Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad continues as he scored his third IPL century of the season against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Qualifier 2 on Friday.

The right-handed batter smashed MI bowlers all over the park and completed his hundred in just 49 balls. He made 129 runs off 60 deliveries at a strike rate of 215.00 including seven boundaries and ten maximums.

Shubman Gill becomes youngest Centurion in PLAYOFFS

Gill’s brilliant knock made him the leading run-scorer of the ongoing 2023 IPL season surpassing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis.

He became the only second batsman to score three centuries in four consecutive T20 matches after Australia’s Michael Klinger. He also became the fourth batsman in the history of IPL after Virat Kohli, David Warner, and Jos Buttler to cross 800 run mark in a season.

The 23-year-old opener got the boon of life early in the innings when Tim David dropped a half-chance at mid-on in the last over of powerplay. He later survived a run out chance against Kumar Kartikeya in the 8th over.

His hundred will be the most impressive century of the season because the way he converted his half-century to century is impressive especially in the most important match against five-time IPL champion.

Gill reached his fifty from 32 balls in the 10th over and then took just 17 more balls to complete his third century in the 15th over. He went on to smash 129 in just 60 balls – single handedly put on a show in Ahmedabad.

His brilliant knock came to an end when he tried to hit the 11th six of his inning against Akash Madhwal’s bowling but this time David completed the catch.

The orange cap holder is now only behind Kohli and Buttler on the list of most centuries scored by a player in an IPL season. Kohlib scored four centuries in 2016 while Buttler smashed four last year.
