Glen McGrath and Darren Berry Furious Over Cummins’ Poor Captaincy in the Fourth Test at Old Trafford

Former Victoria captain tweeted “Absolutely insane to anyone watching this s**t”

The Australian captain has been under the scanner for his poor captaincy in the fourth test against Australia at Old Trafford. Former Australian cricketers have been criticizing Cummins for his strange and clueless captaincy on days two and three of the test match.

Pat Cummins made some surprising decisions regarding team selection as Australia went in an all-seam attack leaving out off-spinner Tod Murphy to make room for Cameron Green. Pat Cummins needed to make a tough call with regards to whom to drop in the playing eleven to include Cameron Green in the playing eleven for the Manchester test and the decision he made surprised many.

Taken Aback

Australia batted well on day one and posted 317 runs on the board. The Aussies were also able to dismiss Ben Duckett early while bowling and everything seemed under control at the end of the first session on day two. But the carnage started in the second session when Zak Crawly started attacking the Aussie bowlers and rattled them through England’s bazball approach.

It seemed like Pat Cummins was not expecting England to play in such a manner given how the series has gone so far. Before this test, Australia did not allow England batters to play in their typical bazball approach as the Aussie bowlers were not giving easy boundaries to the batters as they spread the field from day one of the Ashes series a tactic that was also criticized by many experts but the Aussies found a way to win matches through this tactic

The Reaction

Now former Australian cricketer Glen McGrath has criticized Pat Cummins for his poor captaincy. The former Australian fast bowler Glen McGrath said “Australia tried a few things. I don’t think they really knew what to do. They were sort of chasing their tail a bit, and I’m not sure they executed their plans that well.

Pat Cummins just looks a little bit tired and jaded to me, and that was always a risk of having a fast bowler as captain. Meanwhile, Former Victoria captain Darren Berry termed the onslot as ‘unwatchable’.

He said via Twitter “This is unwatchable. Goodnight to all lovers of the game of our great game of cricket. This is absolutely insane to anyone watching this s**t with half a clue about the game. Pat Cummins is a magnificent cricketer no doubt but remember this msg. He will resign from the captaincy after the Ashes series.”
