Player's Corner

Gavi: The prodigal son who infuriates Real Madrid

Gavi, the 18-year old Spanish midfielder who has been a regular feature in the starting eleven for Barcelona over the last year, is the only player who infuriates Real Madrid team the most with his on-field tactics and play.

He is only 18 years old, and has been an undisputed starter in Xavi’s eleven. He is highly esteemed by the Camp Nou supporters and equally hated by his opponents. The La Masia and Blaugrana blood runs through his blood, which is evident from his attitude and on-field fights and trifles with opponents. He is always ready to put his life on line or even die for his team when he plays. He is fierce, does not miss any ball, tackles deftly at the perfect time, and even looks at his opponents’ eye scaring them.

La Masia runs in his blood

The way he plays on the field portrays the La Masia attitude, thus evident that the Barcelona academy blood runs through his veins. His style is similar to the way his predecessors Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Puyol used to play, always ready to pounce upon their opponents while guarding their own kingdom.

He was once in Real Madrid’s radar long way back. He is not intimidated by any opponent or player and is not impeded by anyone on the opposite side.

He is a talented personality and a superb football player, who is always up for some show on the field, be it with his ready-to-die mentality or never-say-never attitude while defending some ball. He has aptly fitted himself in the playing proficiency of Xavi, who has undoubtedly set him as the starter and his exasperating ability to go for the kill attitude has fetched him the Golden Boy and Kopa Trophy.

MVP in the Clasicos

After playing six El Clasico’s till date, in which he has an equal share of wins and defeats of three, he has always impressed the viewers and supporters with his play and mentality, which also earned him the critics’ respect. So, the Boss Xavi has made his comments about his favorite midfielder, “It’s been a while that I’ve been seeing news reports that Gavi was a butcher. I know where the shots are coming from. We have to protect the player. He is training very well. He’s going in hard, but he’s not going in with bad faith.” Although he has garnered praise from all over the world, he needs to take in consideration the amount of bookings he has been getting in the recent games, as it might led to his expelling from some of the crunch games in the fag end of the season.
