The Argentine superstar was booed by fans when his name was announced while displaying the playing XI against 9th place Lyon. It was not the first time the Parc des Princes had booed Messi’s name. Last month, in the match against Rennes, his name was also booed. Many fans attribute the loss against Bayern in the Champions League to ineffective play by Lionel Messi.
Messi Slammed and booed by PSG Ultras after Lyon loss
The reigning champions of France suffered another home defeat back-to-back. Christopher Galtier slammed the fans for booing the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.
“Whistles against Leo Messi are very harsh. Leo is a player who gives a lot. He also gave a lot in the first part of the season, but it is also up to other players to have more functions,” said Galtier in a post-match interview.
Henry, who played alongside Messi between 2007 and 2010, told Amazon Prime: “It’s embarrassing to hear whistles from the Parc. You can’t whistle one of the best players on the team, who has 13 goals and 13 assists this season. Personally, I would like to see him finish his career at Barcelona in Europe.
“After that, I don’t know what he will do because of the way he left Barcelona after everything he did… I didn’t really like it. For the love of football, he should go back to Barcelona.” Nicolas Tagliafico, another Argentine, also came in support of Messi, saying, “Football is a team sport; it is not just for one.”
Will Messi Stay at PSG or Return to Barcelona?
In two seasons, the Argentine has played 67 matches with PSG, including Sunday’s game against ninth-placed Lyon, and scored 29 goals.
It remains to be seen whether Messi, whose contract expires this July, will return to Barcelona or look for an extension at PSG. PSG will continue their campaign when they play against Nice next Sunday.
