“Former players have full right to share their opinions, but I don’t think there is any arrogance in this team”: Jadeja on Kapil Dev’s remark

The former Indian captain said that the team has become arrogant and the players feel like they know everything

“Sometimes, when too much money comes, arrogance comes. These cricketers feel they know everything. That’s the difference. I would say there are so many cricketers who need help. When Sunil Gavaskar is there, why can’t you talk? Why should there be ego? They feel they are good enough. Maybe they are good enough, but extra help from somebody, who has seen 50 seasons of cricket, won’t hurt. He knows which side the grass grows and where the sun comes out from, these were the words of Kapil Dev as he questioned team India’s approach towards the game after India lost the second ODI against West Indies. Men in blue were bowled out for less than 200 and were unable to play the full quota of 50 overs.

The Approach

Several questions have been raised regarding India’s approach since the beginning of the ODI series against West Indies as the team management has been experimenting a lot with the batting order something that you don’t expect with little over two months left for the world cup. The word from the team management is that they want to try different players at different positions due to injury concerns with several key players heading into the world cup. We saw Kishan opening the innings in the first two ODIs and by the looks of it feels like the Indian team is looking at Ishan as an option for the backup wicketkeeper and opener in the world cup. Another interesting decision was sending Axar Patel at number four in the batting order in the second ODI. He might be used as a floater or as a permanent option at that position in the world cup in the absence of Rishabh Pant and with the presence of only one left-hander in the top seven in Ravindra Jadeja.

What They Said

Former players are not happy with Team India’s approach and have criticized the approach. Reacting to this Jadeja in the press conference said “don’t know when he has said this. I don’t search these things on social media. See… everyone has their own opinion. Former players have full right to share their opinions, but I don’t think there is any arrogance in this team.” India will face West Indies in the third and final ODI of the series on Tuesday and will look to win the match and series.
