Former England captain Eoin Morgan Doesn’t Blieve Harry Brook fits in England’s World Cup Squad

England will kick off its World Cup campaign against the runners-up of the 2019 fifty-over World Cup New Zealand on October 5. England Cricket Board (ECB) has already announced the provisional squad for the multi-nation tournament in India with almost all the expected names making it to the squad except young batting sensation Harry Brook.

The English batter has made a name for himself across formats through his explosive batting. He busted on the scene in international cricket through his attacking batting in the three-match test series against Pakistan in December last year where he scored tons of runs on good batting pitches.

The breakthrough performance from Harry Brook earned him an IPL contract with the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The batter started the tournament well by smashing a century against KKR at Eden Gardens but couldn’t continue his good form in the tournament.

Unlucky Brook

Brook made a solid comeback in the Ashes series against Australis and was instrumental in England winning the third match of the series after trailing 0-2 heading into the next match. His sensible half-century in the second innings took England home in a tense run chase.

After such performances, everyone was expecting Brook to make it to the World Cup Squad but with Ben Stokes coming out of retirement from ODI cricket there was no place for Brook in the provisional squad for the World Cup

Morgan speaks on Brook’s place in WC Squad

England’s former captain Eoin Morgan also feels that there is no place for Brook in the current World Cup squad “In really good teams that have a lot of talent, but mainly a lot of success, there are really good players that miss out.

When I look at the squad that has been selected, I can’t get Harry Brook into that squad. Simply because the return of Ben Stokes adds another middle-order player. Without him bowling, you do need a top-order player as a genuine replacement if somebody in the top order goes down,” Eoin Morgan told Sky Sports.
