Florentino Perez plans to leave Real Madrid

Florentino Perez plans to leave Real Madrid as club president. The departure is not imminent, but he is looking at exit routes in the coming years.

The news revolving that Perez might leave Los Blancos, is also confirmed by Mundo Deportivo. MD suggest that he will leave the club when he feels that he has achieved everything with the club.

Moreover, Real Madrid also released a statement denying that Perez will not leave the club, as well as the idea that there was a motion planned to rename their Valdebebas training ground after him.

Real Madrid announced: “These rumours are categorically false and are due to certain interests that have nothing to do with reality”.

When will Florentino Perez leave the club?

In 2006 when Perez left the club for the first time, the club went through a turbulent period. So, this time, he is looking for a suitable replacement for himself, as he does not want the club to go through a rough patch again.

Any exit would occur after the new Santiago Bernabeu has been inaugurated which is dated for late 2023 or early 2024. Perez considers this the final part of his legacy. Once that is finished, he would have achieved everything in a footballing sense during his 20 years as president.

Requirements to become Real Madrid president

After Perez put through a motion to change the statutes, anyone hoping to take over the club now must have been a member for 20 years, be Spanish, and be able to put together a bank guarantee of 15% of the budget of €120 million at this point.

The candidate in question will not have to put up all of the money themselves, but clearly, banks will not front that kind of agreement for anybody.

Florentino Perez plans to leave Real Madrid, but who will replace him?

Perez has been president of the club two times (2000-2006 and 2009-Present). He also signed Madrid’s peak Galacticos in 2009. He’s overseen six Champions League wins and six La Liga titles but has also come under criticism from fans and officials.

On a footbaling level, Real Madrid would remain in good hands, with General Director Jose Angel Sanchez maintaining a close eye on all operations for some time.
