FIFA to suspend RFEF president Luis Rubiales for 15 years

FIFA is ready to suspend Luis Rubiales for almost 15 years from all football activities after the Spanish Football Federation withdrew its support for him.

Rubiales has been widely criticised by everyone after kissing Spain’s Jenni Hermoso in the Women’s World Cup final. Moreover, Hemoso has also said that it was not consensual.

The 46-year-old was initially backed by the Spanish Federation at first. But now they have taken a dramatic U-turn against him. The federation not backing him is understandable, as his behavior has caused major harm to the image of Spanish football.

FIFA temporarily suspended Rubiales for three months few days ago after he decided against resigning at the RFEF general assembly. Moreover, he also said that false feminism was responsible for the backlash against him and threatening to sue Jenni Hermoso, who he kissed without consent.

FIFA wants to suspend Luis Rubiales over Hermoso case

According to reports, FIFA will look for a ban for Rubiales of up to 15 years. This is the maximum permitted time by their statutes.

Furthermore, prosecutors at Spain’s top criminal court are looking into whether his kiss on Jenni Hermoso amounts to a crime of sexual assault.

Hermoso will be offered the option of legal action and will have the chance to contact National Court prosecutors within 15 days for information about her rights as a victim of an alleged sexual assault should she wish to file a complaint.

Meanwhile the current of public opinion is strongly against Rubiales in Spain. RFEF have also requested the immediate resignation of Rubiales. However, it looks as if he has no intention of stepping down, and it looks like he will be removed by force rather than of his own volition.
