Ferran Torres, Stefan Savic face 2 match suspension after red card in previous game

It has now been officially confirmed that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will be without Ferran Torres and Stefan Savic respectively for their next two league matches, after they received a red card when they played against each other.

Both these players encountered a fight near the halfway line during the second half of the match, and because of that fight, they broke the spirit of the game and hence were shown a straight red.

Torres will now have to miss Barcelona’s league matches which are against the likes of Girona and Getafe, wheres Atletico Madrid will miss Savic for the games against Almeria and Real Valladolid.

These players would be available for the domestic tournaments which include the likes of the Spanish Super Cup and Copa Del Rey. Hence, this would be a huge boost for Xavi as he would be able to play against Real Betis in the semi finals of the Supercopa.

Huge blow for Barcelona

After they received a red card, it was widely reported in the Spanish media that they could have faced a 3-match ban but because there weren’t any injuries between them, the La Liga committee couldn’t force a ban of more than 2 games.

But now still it is a drop for Xavi’s team as he would now miss two of his forwards who are Ferran and Robert Lewandowski for the next 2 encounters. This means that he will have just four forwards available for games, with the likes of Ansu Fati, Raphinha, Ousmane Dembele and Memphis Depay competing for a spot in the starting lineup.
