FC Barcelona: Puma enters race with Nike for sponsorship, as relationship with old partner in shambles

FC Barcelona and Nike have been associated since last 25 years, with the leading brand being on the shirts and accessories, but according to latest reports, it is informed that this decades-long camaraderie might be coming to an end due to several backstage issues which seem to be surfacing at this point.

FC Barcelona and Nike- a combo for the ages

FC Barcelona and Nike sponsor have been at the summit since ages. A partnership which had started 25 years ago, fans have seen both Barcelona and Nike camaraderie thrive at the top since many years, with several stars donning their jerseys and wearing the Blaugrana colors to their best. For people who have been associated with the Spanish giants since aeons, it would be difficult for them to imagine a Barcelona kit without a Nike logo attached to the crest. But, according to recent reports, it is assumed that this decade-long bonhomie is set to fall apart as Barcelona and Nike would be set for different directions in the coming seasons.

Although they have a deal till 2028, which will see the Catalan giants earn 105 million euros, with variables surmounting that amount to 160 million euros, the two parties have often been seen in a frequent encounter at court with disregard and disagreement regarding sales and executive business fallacies. In Spain’s Catalonia, it is rumored that the American brand has often run out of stocks over past three years, thus creating a void in their supplies.

A new partner on the cards?

Nike would like to re-negotiate with one of the best clubs in the world at a lower rate, but it would be left to seen as it is rumored that Nike would like to take their business elsewhere. But, defending champions FC Barcelona feel that they would be gaining the upper and from the deal, with more income on their way, as they are prompted by the news that German brand Puma would look to muscle in their proposals.

There are four years left on Nike’s contract with the Catalan giants, but if they are keen on reducing their sponsorship amount, it could lead to a potential contract extension. Although Barca are not in a position to reconcile with any sponsor or being picky with them, any higher offer would do the job for the Catalan giants, who are currently undergoing a transition phase, regrouping and mustering before the start of next year.

If Puma comes to Barcelona’s fore, their contract would start two seasons from now, with 2025/26 season being the magic figure for the German brand.
